Get the app
- iPhone and iPad: Samsas on the App Store, for iOS 17 or later.
- Android: the app is in a closed beta on Google Play. Join the testers' group, tap Become a tester and install – step by step at samsas.app/en/android. Please keep the app for at least fourteen days; it helps us release it to everyone.
- Different phones? No problem. You share the same household whether you have an iPhone or Android.
Getting started with the kids
1. Add the kids
- Go to Us and tap Add a child under We who live here. With the first child you get the Kids tab, where you add more with +.
- Enter the name, and pick a photo and a figure if you like.
- Fill in the birthday. It then counts down on Home, Bävris reminds you a week before and on the day, and the weekly menu sizes the portion for the child's age.
- In the child's settings you can also add their preschool or school and what a babysitter needs to know, such as allergies, sizes and bedtime.
Add the child to an event in the Week, such as a drop-off, pickup or activity, and it shows on the child's page and in the child's own app.
2. Shared custody (Samsas Plus)
- Tap the child, then the gear at the top right.
- Under Shared custody: choose even or odd weeks and the day you switch.
Kids then shows where the child is right now, and Home counts down the last days before the switch. The child's events are dimmed in the weeks they're at the other home, the weekly menu only counts the child on the days they eat with you, and the calendar you subscribe to shows the weeks the child is with you.
Want the other home to see the calendar too? Under The other home in the child's settings there's a link to send. They open it in their own Samsas app, or scan the code under Kids → Follow a child from another home. Both homes then see the child's calendar and can add pickups and activities. Chores, points and the child's details stay with you.
3. Chores and points
- Tap the child and add the week's chores, such as making the bed, setting the table or feeding the cat.
- Give each chore points: what it earns when it's ticked off.
- The child ticks them off in their own app, or you do it on the child's page.
When the child has done the week's chores they get a 🎉 and you both get a notification. You reset the points once the child has had their reward.
4. The child's own app
The child can have Samsas on their own phone or tablet, with no account and no email.
- Download Samsas on the child's device.
- On the sign-in screen the child taps I'm a child – scan my code.
- On your phone: tap the child → the gear → Code for the app, and let the child scan the QR code. You can also share or print the code.
In their app the child sees today's check-in and what's happening (Today), their drop-offs, pickups and activities (Week), their chores and points (Points) and their wish list for Christmas and birthdays. The child sees nothing about you adults: not your check-ins, your money or the jar. To see exactly what the child sees, tap Preview under Code for the app. If the child has lost their phone, tap New code; the old one stops working.
What the kids check in shows under How they're doing today on the Kids tab.
Common questions
- How do I invite my partner? Under Us → Your code there's a code. Your partner signs in with their Google or Apple account, chooses I have a code and enters it.
- I don't get any notifications. Go to Home → Settings → Notifications and tap Turn on notifications. Also check that Samsas is allowed to show notifications in the phone's settings.
- What can I ask Bävris? Under Food: tap Ask Bävris and ask for a recipe, based on what you fancy, what you have at home or what the kids won't eat. Save the recipe to the cookbook with one tap. On Home: tap Bävris's speech bubble and ask about the week, who does drop-off and pickup or how you've been feeling. The two conversations are kept apart, Bävris doesn't talk about anything else, and no names are sent to the AI.
- How does the weekly menu get the amounts right? Bävris counts who eats at home: the adults and the kids with their ages, and with shared custody only the days the kids are with you. Guests coming? Tap the day and add them under At the table, and the recipe and shopping list are recalculated.
- How do I add my own recipes? Three ways: share the page from the browser (or a post from Instagram) with Share → Samsas; paste the link under Food → Cookbook → Import from link; or copy the recipe text itself and share it. Bävris reads the title, ingredients and steps and puts the recipe in the cookbook. Share something that isn't a recipe and it becomes a row under Lists (To do), with the link.
- How do I get the week in my usual calendar? Week → ⋯ gives you a link to subscribe to in Google Calendar (Other calendars → From URL), Apple Calendar or Outlook. It has the events, bin days and post, birthdays and anniversaries, deadlines from the lists and, with shared custody, the weeks the kids are with you. The kids' events in the weeks they're at the other home are left out.
- Something is missing in my calendar. The calendar app fetches updates on its own schedule: Google roughly once a day, Apple Calendar as often as the subscription is set to. So a change can take a while to show.
- How do I delete my account? Us → Account → Delete my account. It can't be undone. More at samsas.app/en/delete-account.
- How does the cycle forecast work? It's based on the days you've logged yourself. It's an estimate – not contraception and not a medical assessment.
